Doctor Dolittle and the Green Canary is a posthumously published children's novel by Hugh Lofting, where the story begins with the star of the Doctor's "Canary Opera," Pippinella, a canary with a mezzo-contralto voice, recounting the dramatic events of her life before meeting the Doctor. Together with his animal friends, Doctor Dolittle agrees to help Pippinella find her lost former owner, a writer living in a lonely windmill, embarking on a detective story that forms the second half of the book.
