A story descriptive of Dutch Canal-boat life in which cargoes for the Carmaas' boat have been erratic and tiems have been trying.  Just, however, as a promising cargo comes along, Mr. Carmaas meets with an accident, making it seem as if they willneed to forego all its benefits.  Confident in the wisdom of all God's promises the Carmaas are not downhearted, but seek to overcome alla the difficulities, and seek the help of an uncle, a man who, like so many, prefers to believe that success is solely dependent on one's own efforts.  What actually happens, combined iwth the freshness of the setting, the directness of plot, and the local colour, make a delightful tale while young readers will simply love Greta and Jan.
