Well-researched historical novel written primarily for 10 to 14 year olds. Set in Tasmania during convict days, the story relates the adventures of two boys who attempt to escape from their harsh imprisonment. Although the story is fictitious, it is based on actual events which took place at Point Puer
Sam and Jemmy are determined to make it as far as Hobart Town, even if it means slipping past the guards at Port Arthur. And they do, hiding in the bush at night, waiting till it's safe to make a dash for it.
Then suddenly, they hear the sound they dread most. The convict servant is running for the soldiers and the yelps and barks mean the dogs have picked up their scent.
Now it's back to the boys' prison at Point Puer.....
