The author describes the origin and history of every sort of English town, from the medieval cathederal city to the 18th Century spa. The book contains in excess of 120 high quality, b&w photographs, a coloured frontis depicting Lyme Regis, and maps of Lewes and Leicester as they looked in the 1930s.
